Leading up to Christmas last year I was moved to buy a painting at exactly the worst moment (you know, leading up to Christmas). Kate Scoones was having a show at Polychrome Fine Art (http://polychromefinearts.com/index.html), and I fell in love with the painting above - "Strange Yet Beautiful" (6X6 inches, oil on panel). I don't know why. I just needed it, and I had my Visa with me. So.
Some months later, I was looking at a photo stream on Flickr, and ran across the source photo for this painting. Interesting! Kate had obviously seen the photo, and been moved to paint it. Images can capture us that way. It's not particularly easy to paint in colour from a black & white photo, so you can see how nicely Kate has struck a balance in the composition with the colour she has given the painting. Strange, yet beautiful.
